Advisory Neighborhood Commissions are unpaid elected bodies that serve as residents’ official voice before the District government. ANCs also help neighbors with local issues such as construction, trash pickup, business licensing, public safety, and more.
ANC 5D represents a diverse area that includes Gallaudet University and the neighborhoods of Union Market, Ivy City, Trinidad, and Carver-Langston. Starting in 2023, as a result of redistricting, ANC 5D will have nine Single-Member Districts, each represented by one Commissioner.
I am running for re-election to represent Single-Member District 5D04, which covers parts of the old SMD 5D07 (my former SMD) and SMD 5D02. SMD 5D04 is bordered by West Virginia Avenue, Holbrook Terrace, Montello Avenue, Meigs Place, Trinidad Avenue, Queen Street, Holbrook Street, Levis Street, and Oates Street. This diverse SMD includes rowhouses, condos, apartments, and Trinidad’s only commercial strip within the neighborhood.
